How To Prepare For Auditions
What do you have to do to prepare yourself for an audition with Concept Galaxy?
Well, Really you don't have to do anything but show up and show us what you got! But if you'd like to make a really good impression with us and increase your chances of getting cast, below are a few tips on what you can do to stand out at auditions.
-
Prepare a one minute "in-character" monolouge
Make sure you've gotten so comfortable with the character you want to portray in our show that you can do about a full minutes worth of monolouging as them by the time auditions roll around.
-
Have your costume at least 75% complete
Imagine for a moment that you were going to put on a show and two people showed up and tried out for the same character. Both are really good, but one hasn't made their costume yet and the other has come to the audition in costume. Who would you cast? It's only natural for us to lean towards casting cosplayers who we know will have their costume ready in time for the show. By showing up to the audition in costume you increase your chances of getting cast by a hundred fold.
-
Be Flexible with your schedule
The more flexible you are with taking time off to dedicate to rehearsals, cast meetings, and the event dates for the production itself the more likely you are to get cast. We are looking for cast members who understand the importance of quality and team work in a show. Being present to get to know and rehearse with your cast mates is one of the most important ways to prove you understand these concepts.
-
Provide a list of cosplays you've already done.
Sometimes the character you try out for just might not be what we're looking for. If you have a list of your alternate costumes ready for us to review you increase your chances of us finding a spot for you in the show. By providing this list, even if you don't get cast in the show you try out for, you may get a call back about a different show where one of the characters on your costume list is what we are looking for, or what one of our sister troupes is looking for.

If you have a Special Skill...
-
Singers:
At auditions you will be singing Acapella. Make sure you are comfortable singing at least 2 verses of a song of your choice with no musical accompaniment. We are especially interested in singers who can sing in both English and in Japanese.
-
Musicians:
Unless you are a piano player we will not be providing an instrument for you. (Piano players we advise you contact us ahead of time to make sure the location we will be auditioning at is a venue that has a piano for you to play for us.) Make sure to bring your instrument and have it in tune. We are most impressed with a musician who can play at least one classical piece and at least one piece from a video game or anime of your choice.
-
Other:
Bring whatever tools you need to be able to demonstrate your special skill to us. Jugglers bring your own objects to juggle. Dancers bring a C.D. of the music you wish to demonstrate to. Make Up Artists bring your own kit to auditions, and be prepared to do a timed sample of your work. ect.

IF YOU CANNOT MAKE IT TO AN AUDITION....
IF you have exhausted all of your recourses and find that you just cannot make it to our scheduled auditions but you REALLY want to be a part of one of our shows, then send in a YouTube video of yourself to Steph@conceptgalaxy.com, acting as the character you want to be cast as for the show. Make sure the video quality is high enough that we can clearly hear you speaking in character. Bonus Points if you can video tape yourself interacting with another person "in character" so we can assess how well you work interactively with others.
