"Cosplay History in the Making..."
(The Creation of Interactive Cosplay Entertainment!)

JaniCon 2007
JANICON "A Time Warped Wonderland" Production 2007

Stephanie Chateau was the criminal mastermind (and show director) behind Janicon's "Time Warped Wonderland" interactive production. By holding auditions, and enlisting the assistance of seasoned cosplayers from both Bonzai Anime and Sleeping Samurai respectively, Stephanie cast 50+ cosplay entertainers to stay "in character" throughout the weekend for her stage shows and interactive scavenger hunt. In doing this patrons of the convention could experience interacting with their favorite animation, comic book, and video game characters, so that roaming the hallways of the convention would be just as fun as attending any of the panels or main events. By doing this the convention received rave reviews for being "fun" and "atmospheric".

PersaCon 2006
PERSACON "A Weekend in Gion" Production 2006
and "Go for the Gold" Production 2007 Hunt

Persacon "A Weekened in Gion" 2006 was a huge hit with con attendees in Madison and Huntsville Alabama. This convention is where Stephanie first pitched the idea for a scavenger hunt game to convention chair Lauren Cullen. Instead of announcing the planning of a new interactive game, the two kept it a tight lipped secret to all but those involved. When the weekend started and the conventions patrons suddenly found themselves submerged into a storyline plot that would turn into an interactive game (come Saturday at noon) they weren't sure what to think! By the end of the show the patrons of the con not only embraced the concept, but would continue to talk about it for months afterward and relive the experience through photos and YouTube Videos.

REALMSCON "Greedy Galleons" Production 2006 and "Get back the Gantz Ball" Production 2007

The Interactive Scavenger Hunt was so talked about that Realmscon contacted Stephanie shortly after Persacon to create one for them as well, and have enlisted her services to recreate the game for their convention attendees every year since then.

Meanwhile, the expectations and demands from eager Persacon message board patrons, also merited an impromptu pirate themed version of the hunt when Stephanie and her crew returned to Persacon in 2007. Although the hunt was not as popular as it's carefully planned out predecessor, it land marked it's own new concept. The introduction of industry guest cameos as characters in the show or game. Steve Bennett was the first eager participant, becoming the fierce pirate lord "Steve-Feng" for Opening Ceremonies. Steve had so much fun that he asked if he could "do it again sometime..." and the concept of guest cameos was born. This concept promotes the guests in a positive light as an active participant and supporter of the cosplay and costuming community. This is beneficial to both the industry guests and convention patrons. Con Attendees will eagerly wonder who will cameo next and what character they will appear as!

*Noteworthy guests who have appeared in Steph's Shows include Steve Bennett, Chris and Greg Ayres, Tiffany Grant, YaYa Han, Darrel Guilbeau, and Gary Holmes and Ana Aethestic from "Just Push Play".*

ARE THERE BENEFITS BESIDES THE ENTERTAINMENT VALUE?
The Interactive Events Stephanie and her creative team provides are beneficial to cons in another way. Since the introduction to the plot of the game is revealed at a conventions Opening Ceremonies (Friday), the game itself takes place throughout the hallways of the convention on Saturday, and the winners are announced and the story is finished being told Closing Ceremonies (Sunday) this encourages patrons of the convention to stay the entire weekend by way of purchasing a 3 Day Pass. This boosts conventions pre-register sales and ensures more traffic for vendors on all 3 days of the con, rather then just the usual Saturday.
SO HOW DO I MAKE COSPLAY HISTORY HAPPEN AT MY CON?

First you'll need to guestimate how many patrons on average your convention is projected to get. Using that projection you can use the chart we've created below to help you understand what size show you'll want to put on to have the best impact on your audience.

  • Small Scale Production - 5 to 10 actors (Example: Persacon 2006)
  • Medium Scale Production - 10 to 20 actors (Example: Realmscon 2007)
  • Large Scale (Full Production) 50+ actors (Example: Janicon 2007)

ATTENDANCE RATES

  • Considered Small: 500-800 patrons
  • Considered Medium: 800-1,000 patrons
  • Considered Large: 1,000-3,000 patrons*
*Note: Currently there is no game/production developed to cater to a con with attendance past 3k.

Once you know what kind of show you want to put on, small, medium, or large, the next step is to CONTACT US and let us know what you want and when you want it. We'll contact you back as quickly as possible to discuss the details of your dream theme and event!
